FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas, March 4. BENTONVILLE walked away with two state titles at the Arkansas High School State Championships. The Bentonville girls tallied 345.5 points for first followed by Fayetteville (282) and Conway (279). On the boys’ side, Bentonville and Little Rock Catholic went head-to-head for first place. Bentonville came out on top with 327 points followed by Little Rock Catholic (326) and Conway (274).
Girls Results
Bentonville won two of three relays. Lauren Tininenko, Erin Suchy, Jessica Nemesi, and Clara Bracy (the 100 butterfly champ in 58.56) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.84.
Tininenko tied for first with Shelby Cox (Pulaski Academy) in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.30. Both girls surpassed the state record (58.44) set by Nicole Cindric in 2006. Cox also won the 100 freestyle in 52.82.
Sophomore Jenny Holtzen (Fayetteville) was a dual event winner in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle (4:58.51). She set a state record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.83. The previous record (2:08.19) was set by Sarah Edwards in 2007.
Tininenko, Jenn Haefner, Nemesi, and Bracy won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.29.
Lake Hamilton’s Lexi Rasnic had individual wins in the 50 freestyle (24.01) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.84).
Sarah Chewning (Springdale) set a state record in the diving competition with 505 points. Sally Lee of Little Rock Christian Academy took second (340.35) and Kaitlun Patterson on Bentonville placed third (323.50).
Conway’s Jocelyn Woo, Annie Courtway, Corissa Calico, and Sydney Haldeman won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:43.33.
Boys Results
Sam Olson, Tyler Renard, Steven Clark, and Nick McCarthy (Little Rock Catholic) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.02.
Pulaski Academy’s Eric Zheng won the 200 IM (1:53.39) and the 500 freestyle (4:44.66).
Bentonville’s Pearson Gean was a dual event winner in the 50 and 100 freestyles. He clocked times of 21.06 and 46.35, respectively. He teamed up with Justin Potter, John Overstreet and Gage Crosby (the 100 breaststroke champ in 59.35) for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.81).
Top finishers in the diving competition include Siloam Springs’ Bryan Adair (381.20), Mason Rutherford (319.40) and Chris Adair (312.20).
Crosby, Overstreet, Potter, and Gean set a state record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.36). The previous record (3:14.65) was set in 1998 by Fort Smith Southside.
